Renowned Vein Clinic Expands Services and Adds New Interventional Radiologist to the Team

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–La Jolla Vein & Vascular (LJVV), the regional leader in vein treatment, is excited to announce expanded vascular services, including endovascular procedures that rely on advanced medical imaging in real-time. The new services are spearheaded by LJVV’s newest hire, Dr. Elliot DeYoung. Dr. DeYoung specializes in interventional radiology—and provides expertise in a variety of areas, including vascular disease, angioplasty, stenting, embolization, ablation, and more. “We’re excited to welcome Dr. DeYoung to LJVV’s team of doctors and vein specialists,” said Dr. Nisha Bunke, renowned vein expert and founder of LJVV.

“We’re proud to build our reputation on our innovative approach to advanced vein care”

Now spanning four locations, LJVV is better positioned to provide expert care for increasingly complex vascular conditions throughout Southern California. With the hire of Dr. DeYoung, the LJVV team is able to offer a wider variety of advanced services to complement its famed non-surgical procedures for varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency. Dr. DeYoung’s expertise additionally includes interventional treatments for conditions such as peripheral arterial disease, pelvic congestion, May-Thurner, deep vein thrombosis, varicocele, and uterine fibroids. He also specializes in a novel treatment for osteoarthritis, called geniculate artery embolization (GAE). GAE is a minimally invasive intra-arterial intervention that selectively embolizes the geniculate branches for treatment of chronic knee pain from osteoarthritis.

Previously known as La Jolla Vein Care, the new LJVV name reflects the expanded service offering. “We’re proud to build our reputation on our innovative approach to advanced vein care,” said Dr. Bunke. ‘It’s always been our mission to offer the most comprehensive vein care possible—and now we’re able to offer even more comprehensive vein and vascular care to the entire region,” said Dr. Bunke.

21 Foot Symptoms That Indicate Bigger Health Problems

PAYING ATTENTION TO CHRONIC FOOT PAIN IS CRUCIAL TO YOUR OVERALL WELLBEING.

Spider veins and varicose veins: Venous reflux

“Clusters of tiny blue and red blood vessels in the inner ankle may indicate an underlying problem [that’s] not visible to the naked eye,” says Nisha Bunke, MD, FACPh, RPhS, a vein specialist at La Jolla Vein Care in San Diego, California. She explains that these small veins are sometimes “the tip of the iceberg” and may be a sign of venous reflux, a condition that affects the circulation of blood in a person’s lower extremities.

If left untreated, venous reflux can lead to blood clots and hemorrhaging, so make sure to seek professional care if you have varicose pains coupled with any swelling or pain.

Darkening of the skin around the ankle: Chronic venous insufficiency

According to Bunke, the darkening of the skin around the ankle, also known as skin hyperpigmentation, is a sign of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).  This According to Bunke, the darkening of the skin around the ankle, also known as skin hyperpigmentation, is a sign of condition occurs when the valves in a person’s leg veins aren’t working effectively, causing blood to pool in the veins rather than return to the heart.

“This [symptom] usually occurs in the inner ankle and can worsen to involve the lower portion of the leg,” Bunke says. “Over time, the skin becomes firm, dry, eczema-like, and itchy and can even break open, causing a venous leg ulcer.”

Anna Martinez Practice Manager, La Jolla Vein Care

As a medical assistant and now manager of a large, thriving medical practice I have experienced both being in the trenches as a medical assistant and mentoring others as their leader. I can’t emphasize enough to my students the tremendous responsibility and role they have in the medical field.

MEDICAL ASSISTANTS SET THE TONE OF THE PRACTICE

Not only do we have the responsibility of collecting the patient’s vitals and their PMH ( Personal Medical History), but we set and deliver the tone of the practice by being confident, polite and caring. Patients must feel confidence and trust going into a medical office.

THE 5 BEST SOCKS FOR SWOLLEN FEET

When you’re struggling with minor aches brought on by travel, prolonged sitting and standing, or even pregnancy, the best socks for swollen feet are a game-changing addition to your wardrobe.

While these socks may be useful for easing discomfort, they should never be used as a treatment for a medical issue before consulting with your physician. And while many people experience the occasional sore feet, sudden swelling (aka edema) should never be ignored, “especially if the swelling involves only one leg,” notes Dr. Bunke.   Read More on Bustle.com

8 WAYS TO STAY HEALTHY IF YOU WORK IN RETAIL

PROTECT YOUR VEIN HEALTH

Store employees who stand for several hours a day are at a higher risk of developing varicose veins, warns Dr. Nisha Bunke of La Jolla Vein Care. Not only are they unsightly, but bulging leg veins are also an indication of poor circulation, which can endanger your heart health.

“To keep legs healthy, consider wearing compression stockings to give the blood vessels in the legs external support,” Dr. Bunke suggests. “There are different strengths of compression stockings, from light, over-the-counter support to medical-grade, prescription-strength versions.”

She points out that compression stockings also help with other symptoms that can come from prolonged standing, such as leg fatigue, swelling, aching and feelings of heaviness.   Read More at Sparkpeople

Dr. Bunke featured Reader's Digest discussing compression socks

Venous Disease Specialist: Wear compression socks if you sit or stand often

“Compression socks are helpful for anyone to reduce swelling that may be associated with standing or sitting for long periods of time ( gravity dependent edema).
Compression socks are also important in healthy persons to reduce the risk of developing a deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in the leg veins during long periods of immobility, such as during air or car travel, or even working a desk job.

As a medical professional, I wear compression socks every day to work, underneath my scrubs.  I have done so for years, and so have my staff.  Even without an underlying medical issue, compression socks can help reduce leg fatigue, discomfort as well as swelling.” —Nisha Bunke, MD, FACPh, RPhS, Venous Disease Specialist, La Jolla Vein Care.

Meet Dr. Nisha Bunke of La Jolla Vein Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Nisha Bunke.

Dr. Bunke, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was the first physician in the U.S. to hold a fellowship specifically in venous and lymphatic medicine. What drew me in to this specialty was the misconception that varicosities were only a cosmetic issue, even though 1% of the population has or will have an active venous leg ulcer. And, the old mentality in medicine is that you don’t do anything until you need surgery. I saw a need in this field to educate both patients and physicians on the solutions.

The advances in technology also attracted me. Treatments are more effective; safer and recovery is faster. La Jolla Vein Care is now the leader in non-invasive treatments in Southern California.
